ABOUT GEORGIA FRANCIS

Georgia Francis is a spoken word poet, artist, and writer from Scotland. She holds a first class honours degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the Open University.

Francis’ debut poetry collection, Fainting Girl, depicts her experiences with adolescence, chronic illness, disability, love, and sexuality. It released on March 11th 2025, published by Quiet Island (formerly Speculative Books). Francis was longlisted in Black Cat Poetry Press' Turning Points Competition and will be published in the competition anthology releasing 2026. Francis was included in Speculative Books' annual anthology, The SpecBook 2024. Three of her poems were featured in Issue 14 of Wishbone Words.

Francis has performed her spoken word at numerous poetry events in Glasgow including, Quiet Island's Poetry at Inn Deep, Imogen Stirling's Soul Food Poetry, and The Empowered Woman Project's spoken word night. In 2019, she supported poet, filmmaker, and musician Sean Lionadh at his debut book launch.

Francis has collaborated with multiple artists and creatives. She frequently sits as an art model for artist Elaine O'Neill. O'Neill's portrait of Francis, Georgia. Zebra Not Horse., was selected for the Scottish Arts Trust's Scottish Portrait Awards 2024In 2021 Francis collaborated with sculptor, artist, and musician Erin Hephzibah to create 49.5kg, a performance piece depicting an honest view of illness and caretaking. Francis and Hephzibah have also worked together on a number of original songs including Raggedy Ann, which features in Hephzibah's debut EP Harebrained.
