49.5kg

With Erin Hephzibah - sculptor, artist, musician.

49.5kg is a performance art piece by sisters Erin Hephzibah and Georgia Francis. The project began as a response to ableist notions of illness and the romanticisation of caring for a sick loved one. Depicting a fully rounded and honest narrative of illness and caretaking, the piece aims to educate and engage its audience in conversations about carer and disability rights, treatment, and representation.

49.5kg was Hephzibah's final artwork for her BA in Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art. The piece was exhibited at Mid Wharf Art and Design in 2021 as part of GSA's Alt Degree Show Festival.
